Of course, the virus news hasn’t taken a break since yesterday either: U.S. Reports 18 Additional H5 Infected Herds (n=491) - Canada Reports 5 Additional Poultry Outbreaks
We already have non-sustained human spread of mild illness; the question of viral changes and reassortment loom large in our human and swine populations as we head into the winter. Neuraminidase cross-reactivity may provide many of us with significant resistance, but is of little help to naive poultry, young children, or the immunocompromised…bring on vaccines ASAP!
We live in a society that has just elected by a majority vote an incoming administration that campaigned on openly questioning scientific integrity related to public health, pandemic preparedness, and traditional research methodology and results.
I fear that with H5 H.L. Mencken may prove prophetic:
