I find it hard to believe all of those poultry farms have such lax biosecurity issues. I would think farmers are trying their damnedest to not lose all their birds and income. So Clorox baths for workers boots before entering barns, clean outer wear to change into before entering, and limiting vehicles onto property seem obvious and I would assume generally employed.

So virus hitching a ride on dust ( fomites) seems possible but aren’t some barns equipped with air filtration?

How about mice , rats and possibly ranch cats ? Hard to control every single mouse.

I don’t have experience with containment farms but I know they try very hard to keep cross herd or cross flock introductions to a minimum. I also think humans as carriers to that many farms seems unlikely.

We know what some of the potential disease vectors are so why can’t researchers at agricultural schools set up barns where they can control the various vector options? At some small scale why couldn’t they quickly assemble barns in known outbreak areas to test what the weakness we all seem to be missing really are?
